And ye shall go forth in the power of my Spirit, preaching my gospel, two by two, in my name, lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, declaring my word like unto angels of God. Doctrine & Covenants 42:6

I Am Currently Serving In...

The Sunset Hills Ward in the Apple Valley Stake. AND I'm on bike. Woohoo! Super awesome and good times have been had so far.

Last Monday was awesome because I went around and saw all of my favorite families in Phelan and took pictures with them and stuff. It really was just a good day. Not much missionary work going on, but it was P-day, so it all works out.

Tuesday was transfers. It was weird not knowing where I was going. I was chilling with Elder Bushman, just waiting for President Godwin to read off my name to know where I was to go. Sunset Hills is cool. My companion, Elder Jackson, is also really cool. He and I get along really well. We didn't do too much that day. We just went to dinner with the Smithsons, who were cool. They've got a house that some other members are living in behind their house, and they are moving out soon. SO me and Elder Jackson are actually going to be moving in to that house at the end of November, which is way better than the stinky apartment now. Exciting.

Wednesday we just tried contacting some referrals, so really nice old women who really don't want to change. That morning Elder Jackson had a meeting because his the District Leader, so I went to some other missionaries' area for an hour. That was weird because they both just barely got transferred into the area and didn't know it at all AND one of them didn't have a bike, so we just walked a ton and didn't do anything. Kind of lame, actually. Oh yeah, I went to Walmart, too. Bought myself some Fruity Dino Bites. Stater Bros. didn't have anything at their store, just garbage cereal. I'm glad I can go to Walmart to buy stuff. Haha.
Thursday wasn't eventful either. We tried contacting old Potential Investigators, none of which were home. We tracted for an hour and got a couple of return appointments for this upcoming week. We went to dinner with this awesome family. They are the Berry Family. I have a ton in common with them, especially the dad. We are both nerds and talked about Doctor Who for an hour or so. Haha. I love them. They have 6 wild children, they kind of remind me being at a Taylor/Anderson family gathering. I love it.

Friday was good. We did some weekly planning, so this next week we will actually find people to teach and not sit around having nothing to do. We did, however, teach a part member family, which was good. One of the first things the wife told us was that she wanted to get baptized, which is always what you want to hear when you are a missionary, so at the end of the lesson we tried setting a date with her and her son, but she said that she didn't want to be pushed. That doesn't make any sense to me! She wants to get baptized, but doesn't want to know when she is going to be baptized? What? Whatever. They will get baptized sometime.

Saturday was really nice. I was on exchanges with Elder Norton, my Zone Leader, in the Ridgecrest YSA ward. Elder Norton is totally cool and we had a good time. It turns out he is a Pokemon fan, too, so we had something to talk about all day. Being a Zone Leader for a little bit was nice. We helped a companionship do their weekly planning, we had quite a few people call us for random stuff all day, and I was the largest area in the whole mission. The YSA ward cover the entire High Desert. We saw a few less active young adults, and just had a good time.

That evening, however, was the best. I went with Elder Smith and Elder Clark (Elder Smith's companion in Phelan prior to me) to Phelan for Carla and Roland's baptism. It was cool to be with a couple of cool missionaries go to my old ward. The baptism was great, I was actually able to perform the baptism for Carla. Before that we went to a recent convert's house for dinner, that was fun because me Smith and Clark all love that family. After the baptism we went over to the Best's house for a little bit. Elder Smith called them up to ask if we could go over, so she had no idea that Clark and I were going over. When Elder Smith walked in they were happy, then they saw Elder Clark and were thrilled, then they saw me and the all started jumping up and down. That was funny. It was great to know that we were their favorite missionaries, haha!

Yesterday was alright. Pretty much we were at church and nothing else happened. Ward council is usually a joke. I've noticed that here and in Phelan. Not too much actually gets done in those meeting. Church was nice. It was the Primary Program. Little kids are the best. Instead of going to Sunday School, the Primary president asked if Elder Jackson and I would teach a class, so we did. That was a nightmare. Those 11 year old children were bouncing off the walls and pretty much not paying attention. It also didn't help that we had no time to prepare the lesson. Ah well, at least we could do something to help.

That brings us to today. So far I've only been able to play Volleyball and email home. I also ate at Carl's Jr. for breakfast. That's about my day so far. Emailing home is the highlight of the day, by far. I love to get emails, wink wink. If you are reading this you should email me. If you don't have my email address here it is:

My Last Week in Phelan

Man, I'm not even sure what to really say. I got a transfer call yesterday and was told that I'm being transferred. That kinda stinks. I really love Phelan and all of the people in it. I have made so many friends and done so many things here, it is really hard to realize that I'm leaving.

So let's start at last Monday. I didn't have time write a big ol' long email last week because there were some senior citizens talking a computer class in the library, so I only had an hour, so I wrote the folks who emailed me then didn't have time to do anything else. But, I did get to play Ultimate Frisbee! The best sport to play. That was tons of fun. Elder Pettegrew ran out of money this week, which is actually pretty funny, so he's been eating a lot of peanut butter tortillas recently.

This week we've had a lot of lessons with investigators. We have a list of 18 of them here, but only 4 came to church yesterday. That is probably the hardest thing to get people to do. No one wants to come to church! Even when they tell us that they believe what we taught them was true. There was this one guy who Elder Pettegrew and Elder Montgomery (an elder from the area right next to mine. We were on exchanges that day) found while tracting. He said that he and his wife prayed last night to have help come this morning, then they showed up that next morning, which was on Thursday. He believed that we were sent from God, but just yesterday said that he has "heard some stuff" (probably from the internet) about Mormons and doesn't want to talk to us any more, even though he still thinks that God sent us. That really doesn't make sense to me.

Exchanges on Thursday were sweet. I went up to Wrightwood with my district leader, Elder Bagley. He and I are pretty good friends, and, to be honest, neither of us were getting along with our companions too well, so it was a good time to have a little bit of a break and be with a friend. For dinner we ate at this place called Mexico Lindo. Super delicious cuisine. Yummo! Who knew something that good would be in a place called Wrightwood?

Yesterday was really tough. Since I found out I was leaving, the bishop, Bishop Best, announced it. There were so many people coming up to me and hugging me and telling me to be a good boy and stuff. My investigator, Carla, who is getting baptized on Saturday, had a total meltdown. That was strange. I just hope that I can love my new area as much as I love Phelan, because Phelan is a super awesome place that I want to come back to some day.

Nothing else of real significance to tell you. It was a pretty average week in terms of missionary service. Just teaching lessons, and when we weren't teaching we were out knocking on doors trying to find some more people to teach. I'll let all ya'll know where I'm at in a week. Keep being the best friends and family that I know!

There's a picture of a ghost hand. Freaky.

I loved the CHURROS license plate. I laughed when I saw it.

The picture of Rex and Buzz is kind of a long story. Me and Elder Montgomery, the new elder in Wrightwood, wanted to do something funny, so he bought Rex and I bought Buzz and we put our names on each other's toy. Kind of silly, but that guy is awesome.

Another picture is on me and Pettegrew tracting. I wanted proof, so I took that picture. It was kinda cold that night.

Here are the Turners. Emily, and her niece. Brian, in the 2011 shirt, and Angela. And me too.

Here are the Burns. Chris, the dad, Summer, the Mom, Judy, Chris and Gage. Little Chris is the one we baptized at the beginning of September.

Little Chris is the one we baptized at the beginning of September. I know it's blurry, but what am I to do?

This is Brother Fenn. Totally cool guy, that is our Teddy bear child, or something like that. I don't know.

These ladies we affectionately refer to as "the Golden Girl" Sisters Vanik, Vaughn, and Anderson. Super sweet women who bought us lunch today. They were walking out of McDonald's as we were walking in.

Conference Was Steller!

I don't have too much time, so here it goes.

Conference was super awesome. I really enjoyed every talk. Elder Holland's was super boss. If you didn't get a chance to hear it, go right now and look it up. Super good.

I went on exchanges with a missionary greener than me. I had so much fun that day. We talked about on my favorite TV shows, Scrubs, a lot of the time. Until that exchange, I thought exchanges were dumb. Now I totally see why we do them. It really helped me out. I really am grateful that I have such a good companion, but it is nice to take a break and get a new perspective for 24 hours.

We got 6 new investigators this week. One of them was a guy Elder Smith and I tracted in to about 2 months ago. We started teaching him. His name is Mike. Pettegrew and I tracted in to a family of 5. I just hope they are super cool and that we get many opportunities to teach them and help them progress in the gospel.

Carla and Roland's baptisms are scheduled for Saturday. I sure hope that they are able to be baptized. I'll let you know in a week from now!

Not too many weird or strange experiences. Tracting has been weirdly successful. I attribute it all to Elder Pettegrew. He is super obedient and only wants to do what's right. The only time we've been able to find people are when he chooses the streets. All the ones I choose either have only one house on them, or the people start yelling at us and swearing at us telling us to get off their properties. Lots of good work has come out of tracting.

This Thursday we are having a mission tour. That is when a general authority comes to our mission and speaks to just us. Our GA is C. Scott Grow. I have no idea who he is, but I sure hope that it will be great.

Here's something kinda funny, so Jenny, the person I had my first lesson with, and her parents, have all said that they want to follow me where ever I go on my mission. They might also just come home with me. Haha! They said they only need a small room with a couple of beds. That family is one of my favorites.

Now, I can't even think of what else to write. How lame, right? I want to tell you that I found a giant gold nugget outside my house, but that would be a lie. What isn't a lie, though, is that ya'll are the greatest. Keep up being super cool.

Some Phelan Pun

How is my favorite fan club doing? Have I ever told ya'll that I love you? Well, if I haven't, I will now. I love you! If you are reading this, I love you. I hope today is super awesome for you and you get all that you've been wishing for.

Now, my week in review. Monday last week was pretty nice. We had a Zone Activity where we played this super fun game called Gatorball. You play it with a soccer ball, and the goal is to hit a chair to get points. You can only kick the soccer ball until it has become air bound, at which point you can catch it and run with it in your hands. If you hit the chair with a kick you get 2 points, if you hit it with a throw you only get 1. It was way fun. That night we also had a lesson with Carla and Roland which went well. Their baptismal date is coming up on the 13th and Roland still hasn't quit smoking. He has until Saturday to quit. I sure hope that he will be able to be baptized.

So let's see about this last Tuesday. There is this one guy, whose name is Arturo, who we found tracting. He told us that he was baptized when he was 16 when he lived in Guatemala. Since he moved up to the US he hasn't been to church, so we started teaching him. He is a super nice guy. He didn't come to church yesterday, but hopeful while we keep meeting with him he will have a desire to do so. That night we had dinner with the Mills family. They are a super funny bunch. While we were they told us about this thing called a Faith Rocket. It's where you get a tea bag and empty it of its contents. Then you put it on your hand and stand it up on the end you cut off and you light it on fire! At the end right before it reaches your hand it is supposed to fly up and not burn your hand. So I did this three times, and all three times it didn't fly up, so it started to burn my hand. I have a video of it. I'm gonna try to get it to ya'll. Hopefully I will find a way.

Wednesday was was alright as well. We got a new investigator, whose name is Josh. He is the boyfriend of one of the girls in the ward. I've talked to him quite a few times before we had a lesson with him, but now we are teaching him. Super cool stuff. Oh yeah, I forgot. I went to see a doctor at his home that morning. My foot has been hurting me since before I went into the MTC, but this past week it was super killer. So this doctor told me that I have Planar Fasciitis. I'm not sure if you spell that way, but whatever. I'm not sure if any of you have heard of that, but it really isn't that bad. It just means that my foot is going to hurt and there's nothing you can do about it. So whatever. I'm just not supposed to play basketball and sports and stuff for a couple of weeks.Uh. So that night I wasn't able to play basketball with the ward. Ah well.

I don't really recall what happened on Thursday. I think we got a referral for Robert McCoy. Remember that weird dude I told you about who Elder Smith and I tracted in to? Well, we got a media referral where he requested missionaries to come over. So Elder Pettegrew wanted to go over, even though I really didn't want to. We went and talked to him for about 20 minutes and now he is an investigator. Woohoo... He even came to church yesterday. I sat by him all day. It was strange. But if he wants to learn, who am I to deny him that privilege?

I'm not sure what day this next even happened, but I really have to tell you about it. So there we were, tracting a street called Walnut. We knocked on a couple of doors, and had no luck. This next house there was a guy already outside, so we decided to go talk to him. Well, he started to tell us that he didn't believe Christ was anything special and that the things in the bible aren't anything that He really said. Then he started to tell us about his beliefs. Apparently we are all created by Grey Aliens.  And Sasquatches exist. So the Grey Aliens came down to Earth and mated with the Sasquatches, and thus humans were created. This guy, who Elder Pettegrew and I call Crazy Al, because his name was Al, told us that he and his family were abducted by these Grey Aliens and that he isn't scared of them any more. And very soon these Grey Aliens are going to have a Disclosure where they are going to let the entire human race know that they exist and that they've been in control of the government the whole time. Whatever. We've had quite a few laughs about this guy.

Friday was a super awesome day. There was a Recent Convert temple trip to do Baptisms for the Dead scheduled that night. We had scheduled an appointment with an investigator for that evening, a half hour before we were supposed to leave, so we weren't going to make it. Fortunately/unfortunately she wasn't home, so we were able to make it to the temple trip! That is a rare treat for a couple of missionaries to do. We went to In-n-out for dinner, which was a total plus and we went to Dairy Queen for ice cream afterward. I was way glad I went.

Saturday was kinda different. The tail light on our truck was out for quite some time, so we went out to Victorville to get it fixed at a Pep Boys. Since it was Saturday and we had a couple of hours to blow before Pep Boys would get to our car, we went to the swap meet where Jenny, the woman who just got baptized, and her dad work at. That was way cool to see them there, and they absolutely loved it, so everybody wins! We also went to Wal-mart for a second. Then when we were able to make it back to Phelan we went to see Ilich and Blanca. Now, this is a strange story. I guess Blanca is pregnant and moved back in with Ilich. Ilich's mother moved to the other house that they have on their property, which is going to help them out immensely. I guess Blanca never even moved. I really am not clear on how everything worked out, but they are back together. They even came to the temple trip on Friday, but only Blanca could do the baptisms. Its cool to see them trying to work things out.

That night we had a Break the Fast Dinner for the ward's 40 Day Fast. I'm not sure if I told ya'll about it, but it was way nice and we had plenty of missionary miracles, like being let in to houses and teaching them. That was a fun time and it was nice being able to eat after 40 days. You have no idea how hungry you get when you don't eat for that long.

Yesterday was pretty average. Church and stuff, you know. We tracted Easy Street. No one was home. Sad day. Church was just as good as you could have hoped for.  Nothing too exciting, except having Robert there. We had dinner with the Tuckers, he kept putting on the Angels game, and told me "not to watch it". I watched some of it. The last I saw they were down 7-8. Did they end up making it? Hmm.

Nothing to report about today. I've only been to Stater Bros. and eaten at Taco Bell. I'm going to go to Wrightwood to watch The Best Two Years with the missionaries up there once I'm done email you guys. Good news,  General Conference is this weekend! Everyone who reads this had better watch it, because I am super excited to watch it. I'm just worried that I might feel trunky because of it. Last conference was awesome because Lukas, Isaac, my dad and I were all able to watch the Priesthood session together. Not this time, though. ):

Thanks for being awesome. Feel free to email me or write me! I do accept packages.
